Terrier Show 2011

EKH TERRIER AND FUN DOG SHOW

The EKH Supporters Club annual Terrier and Fun Dog Show took place last Sunday (July 31) in glorious weather at Page Farm, Postling.   Once again, the efforts of the Supporters Club and Chairman Eddie Gosbee, were rewarded with a good crowd and excellent terriers on show. Judge John Bartlett had some tough decisions to make in several of the classes, and complimented all who took part for producing such a quality show.

Champion Bitch went to ‘Izzie’, shown by Stuart Henderson from Gravesend, while ‘Twist’, a Patterdale terrier shown by Mrs. Beaney from Sittingbourne, took the Champion Dog Award and went on to land the Joanne Shield as Show Champion.   Plenty of action occurred outside the show ring, with the family fun show running classes for Best Condition, Most Appealing Eyes, Child Handler, Waggiest Tail, and Dog Most Like It’s Owner! Clear round jumping went on throughout the afternoon, drawing a constant crowd who enjoyed much fun at the expense of several handlers who were too often not quite as agile as their dogs!

With some close and exciting terrier racing drawing the day to an end, a huge debt of thanks goes to Mr and Mrs Frank Hobbs for once again, generously hosting the event.

Kent Count Show 2011

DREAM TEAM REPRISE WINNING ROLE AT KENT COUNTY

The East Kent ‘B’ Team, affectionately known as ‘The Dream Team’, repeated their 2010 winning role as Inter Hunt Relay champions at this year’s Kent County Show.
With an unchanged team consisting of Lyn Hamant, Georgia Dingle, Henry Dingle and Isla Gifford, the quartet set the standard by going fast and accurately to beat the Ashford Valley before going through to a final against the OSB&WK, billed by the commentator as a local derby, the East Kent versus the West Kent! With an air of confidence and almost consummate ease, our Dream Team dispatched the local rivals to secure the trophy for the second year running and will hopefully be back in 2012 looking for the hat-trick!

Not to be outdone, East Kent’s ‘A’ Team, consisting of new whipper-in, Ollie Thompson, Mary Major, Rex Dingle and Courtney Francis, took first prize in the prestigious ‘Best Turned Out’ competition. Judged this year by the esteemed Nigel Peel MFH, a stickler for correct dress, it was obvious to all that the East Kent, once again, are the force to be reckoned with.

Puppy Show 2011

EKH 2011 PUPPY SHOW
Mark Westaway was a happy man. Reclining in his garden chair, scotch in hand, the East Kent Huntsman reflected on another successful Puppy Show.   His judges, Simon Marriage, Master of the Essex, and Neil Staines, Huntsman of the Ashford Valley, had enjoyed a busy afternoon appraising the eight couple of EKH hounds on show, finally awarding Gloucester (Best Doghound) the Champion Challenge Bowl, with Glossy (Best Bitch) taking Reserve place. Both Gloucester and Glossy are by the Crawley & Horsham’s Gangster (06) and out of the East Kent’s Placid (07).   The vital job of puppy walking never goes unrewarded at the East Kent, and Mrs Lyn Anderson once again took home the award for walking this seasons Best Bitch, Glossy, while top dog Gloucester’s walker, Sally Hart, added the Pony Club Cup to her collection, a justified reward for her splendid contribution to the day.

LINGFIELD PONY RACE DAY

ALONG CAME GEORGIA: LINGFIELD PONY RACE DAY

Elham’s Georgia Dingle took another step in her racing career recently when finishing second in a very competitive 14.2 pony race at Lingfield racecourse, part of the Charles Owen series of races.

Georgia has been sharing the race rides on Along Came Belle, with her younger brother Rex this season, and in only her second race, was seeking to improve upon her third place at Ascot earlier this year.

Up against seven opponents, Georgia got a flyer at the start and were disputing the lead to the four furlong point. ‘Belle’, an established stayer, found the pace a little hot from that point, but gamefully stayed on to take second spot. As brother Rex, the first to congratulate Georgia on her fine ride commented, “I’ve been saying all season that Belle needs a longer trip, she stays on so well at the end of her races.”

Penstock Hall Farm

Finty has kindly provided an account and photos of March 5th 2011: –

We met at Penstock Hall Farm by kind permission of Mr & Mrs George Jessel. They provided a feast of sausage rolls and chips and plenty to drink. We moved off just after 11.00am and from then on it was great fun. We jumped a few fences and had plenty of gallops on brilliant rolling country. It was a very enjoyable day!

ANNUAL TERRIER SHOW

The hunt Supporters Club annual terrier Show took place last Sunday (July 25) with plenty of support from both two legged and four legged followers.

Due very much to the hard work of Eddie Gosby and Co, and the kind permission of Frank and Christine Hobbs, the show went ahead in glorious weather at Page Farm, Postling. Christine gallantly stood in at the eleventh hour to record entries, results and awards following last minute withdrawals from some who preferred to attend the West Street Puppy Show – their loss!

With good support and entries in each of  ten show classes and even more for the ten family dog classes, the emphasis was on fun. With all shapes and sizes of dogs present, it looked a little like open day at Battersea Dogs Home! With entries coming from as far a field as Sandhurst, Ramsgate and Shotgate in Essex, the Supreme Champion at the end of the day went to a local entrant, Mrs Beaney, a member of the Supporters Club from Upchurch.
